In the summer of 2015 the GAS Group created a vision of building the business whilst supporting young people from the region. Offering training and developing through tailored apprenticeship schemes, we sought to provide new employment opportunities to individuals who were keen to secure work-based learning in a nurturing, supportive environment. With an initial intake of 10 apprentices in September 2015, the programme has rapidly grown and achieved national and regional recognition for the depth and scope the programme offers each apprentice.

In many cases, it’s their first experience of a working environment, and we work hard to encourage enthusiasm and most importantly, inclusion. We immerse each person within their team, and the business as a whole, and, rather than being labelled as “the apprentice”, we treat them in exactly the same way as any other employee.
Some might argue this could be daunting and might not suit everyone, but we’ve found that our nurturing approach and providing them with as much or as little support as they need, they have all flourished. Our apprentices are brimming with ideas and enthusiasm, and rarely have any preconceived thoughts about what they should or shouldn’t do – this means we benefit from uninhibited suggestions, which often turn out to be fantastic and insightful.
